VIENTIANE, April 14 (Xinhua) -- General secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President of Laos, Thongloun Sisoulith, has extended Lao New Year greetings to citizens at home and abroad, as well as to the foreign community residing in the country, calling for continued unity and collective efforts to advance sustainable development.

In a nationally broadcast message, Thongloun conveyed his best wishes and reflected on 2025, describing it as a period of notable achievements and national pride. Despite global and domestic challenges, he noted that Laos maintained political stability, preserved social order, and achieved positive economic recovery and growth.

He attributed these successes to strong national unity, as well as support from friendly countries and international organizations, according to Lao National TV on Tuesday.

He also highlighted Laos' increasing role on the regional and international stages, noting that such progress is helping guide the nation into a new phase of development.

Looking ahead, Thongloun acknowledged an increasingly complex global environment marked by ongoing conflicts and uncertainties. He called on all sectors of society to strengthen patriotism and unity, and to work closely together to overcome these challenges.

He concluded by wishing all Lao people, as well as foreign residents contributing to national development, good health, happiness, and success, expressing hope that the Lao New Year would be celebrated in peace, joy, and safety.

The Lao New Year is the most important festival in the Lao calendar. This year's holiday will be observed from April 14 to 16.
