DOHA, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Qatar on Tuesday called for intensified regional diplomacy to stabilize the fragile ceasefire between Iran and the United States, stressing that dialogue remains the only viable path to lasting stability.

In a media briefing, Majed Al-Ansari, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the current ceasefire remains fragile and requires sustained international attention.

"The priority now is to consolidate the ceasefire and prevent a return to escalation," he said, warning that without a comprehensive political framework, the region risks renewed confrontation.

Al-Ansari stressed that the ceasefire should not be seen as an end to underlying tensions, noting that unresolved disputes require structured negotiations and a long-term political roadmap.

He confirmed Qatar's support for mediation efforts led by Pakistan, describing them as a key channel for de-escalation.

While Qatar is not acting as a formal mediator, the spokesman said that it maintains close coordination with all parties and supports broader regional engagement under the Gulf Cooperation Council framework.

Al-Ansari added that the Strait of Hormuz crisis must be resolved through a regional mechanism involving all coastal states, warning that external solutions would not be effective.

Any disruption to navigation in the strait, he noted, would have serious global consequences for trade and economic stability.

"The solution must be regional, and there should be no preconditions for freedom of navigation," Al-Ansari said.
