TOKYO, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks ended higher on Tuesday, as investor sentiment was lifted after U.S. President Donald Trump said Iran is willing to continue engagement.
The benchmark Nikkei stock index, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average, ended up 1,374.62 points, or 2.43 percent, from Monday at 57,877.39.
The broader Topix index, meanwhile, finished 32.26 points, or 0.87 percent, higher at 3,755.27.
On the stock market, momentum strengthened following Trump's remarks that Teheran had contacted Washington. Iran has not confirmed that the call has taken place. ■
