DAMASCUS, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Syria and Jordan have signed a series of agreements aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation across key sectors, according to an official statement released Sunday.
The agreements were reached during the second session of the Syrian-Jordanian Higher Coordination Council, held in the Jordanian capital on Sunday, and co-chaired by senior officials from both countries.
According to the statement by Syria's foreign authorities, the two sides agreed to resume natural gas supplies to Syria under a deal signed on Jan. 26, with deliveries expected to restart within two days after the completion of technical procedures.
In the economic sphere, officials emphasized plans to enhance trade and investment cooperation, including the implementation of new trade facilitation measures starting May 1, based on reciprocity. The two sides also highlighted the importance of resuming transit trade flows and improving access to ports to support the movement of goods between the two countries.
In the transport sector, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation across land, air and maritime routes, while working to simplify procedures and enhance the flexibility of transportation operations.
Water cooperation was also a key topic, with both sides agreeing to reactivate joint committees to ensure fair water distribution and address shared challenges, including seasonal water shortages and sustainable resource management.
Additionally, the two countries discussed expanding collaboration in education, healthcare, agriculture, tourism and institutional development, as well as capacity-building programs aimed at strengthening public sector performance. ■
