BEIJING, April 13 (Xinhua) -- Safeguarding the security, stability and unimpeded passage in the Strait of Hormuz serves the common interests of the international community, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Monday after the United States announced that its Navy would begin blocking ships trying to enter or leave the strait.
Noting that the Strait of Hormuz is an important route for international goods and energy trade, Guo said at a regular news briefing that the root cause of the disrupted passage in the strait is the Iran conflict and the solution is to achieve a ceasefire as soon as possible,
He called on all parties to exercise calm and restraint, adding that China will continue to play a positive and constructive role. ■
