RAMALLAH, April 11 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian man was killed Saturday by Israeli settler fire in the village of Deir Jarir, northeast of Ramallah in the central West Bank, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said.
The ministry identified the victim as Ali Hamadneh, 23, and said he was shot during a settler attack on the village. He was hit in the back and chest and arrived at the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah in critical condition before being pronounced dead.
Local sources said a group of settlers entered the village entrance and opened fire on residents. The Israeli army later entered the area and closed the village entrance, they said.
The West Bank and East Jerusalem have seen escalating tensions since Oct. 7, 2023. A UN report issued April 2 said more than 200 settler attacks in March caused casualties or property damage across over 100 communities -- about six per day.
More than 700,000 Israeli settlers live in settlements in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, alongside about 3.3 million Palestinians, according to a 2025 UN report. ■
