CAIRO, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his British counterpart Yvette Cooper discussed the latest regional developments during a phone call on Saturday amid the ongoing U.S.-Iranian negotiations.
According to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the two ministers emphasized their mutual commitment to enhancing joint coordination in light of the grave security challenges currently facing both regional and international levels.
They also agreed to maintain continuous consultation and coordination, leveraging the close ties between Cairo and London to help reduce tensions and support regional security and stability.
Abdelatty, according to the statement, reaffirmed Egypt's position that prioritizes diplomatic paths and negotiations as the sole means of addressing the current crisis.
Furthermore, he hoped that the U.S.-Iranian talks in Pakistan would serve as a turning point to end the conflict.
Delegations from Iran and the United States are in Islamabad for talks aimed at easing tensions in the Middle East following a ceasefire reached earlier this week after more than a month of fighting. ■
