ALMATY, April 10 (Xinhua) -- The volume of rail freight between Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries has increased by 34 percent since the beginning of 2026, the press service of national railway operator Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) reported on Friday.

The growth was driven by improved operational efficiency, shorter delivery times, and the development of railway infrastructure, the statement said.

Exports have shown significant momentum, driven primarily by the agro-industrial sector, according to KTZ.

Grain exports reached 2.08 million tons, up 50 percent year on year, while exports of ferrous metals rose by 43 percent to 442,000 tons, and petroleum products increased by 6 percent to 212,000 tons, KTZ added.

Among countries in the region, freight volumes with Uzbekistan increased by 37 percent, with Turkmenistan by 31 percent, with Tajikistan by 16 percent, and with Kyrgyzstan by 13 percent.
