Myanmar president pledges to strengthen int'l relations in accordance with Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence

YANGON, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's President Min Aung Hlaing on Friday pledged to strengthen international relations in accordance with the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, the state-owned Myanmar Radio and Television reported.

In the inaugural ceremony speech delivered at the Union Parliament in Nay Pyi Taw, Min Aung Hlaing said that Myanmar would maintain a balanced approach to international relations and enhance friendship with neighboring countries, the report said.

As a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Myanmar government would strive to restore normal relations with ASEAN, he added.

The government would cooperate with neighboring countries and regional partners in various political, economic, and social sectors, and would strengthen international relations in accordance with the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, he said.

He also emphasized building a federal union, promoting renewable energy to reduce fuel use, and establishing a new Ministry of Women's Affairs to enhance the capabilities of women in various fields.

His speech also addressed matters related to education, economic development through micro, small, and medium enterprises, and national reconciliation, the report added.
