AMMAN, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Thursday condemned the Israeli government's approval of 34 new settlements in the occupied West Bank, describing the move as a "flagrant" violation of international law and a systematic dismantling of the two-state solution.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Fouad Majali said such measures violate international law and UN Security Council Resolution 2334, which condemns actions intended to alter the demographic composition and legal status of Palestinian territories.

Majali also cited a recent International Court of Justice advisory opinion affirming the illegality of settlement construction and land annexation.

He urged the international community to fulfill its legal and moral duties by compelling Israel to halt its illegal actions and supporting the Palestinian people's right to establishing their own state.

Israeli media reported Thursday that Israel's cabinet has approved the establishment of 34 new settlements in the occupied West Bank.

A map from Israeli i24News outlined planned settlements around the northern West Bank city of Jenin, between the southern West Bank cities of Bethlehem and Hebron, and in other areas previously without an Israeli presence.
