BEIRUT, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Hezbollah fighters launched a missile attack on Friday targeting an Israeli military naval base at the port of Ashdod in southern Israel, according to a statement by the group.

The group said that the attack was in response to what it described as repeated Israeli violations of a ceasefire agreement and ongoing strikes on Beirut.

Hezbollah added that such operations would continue until what it called Israeli and U.S. "aggression" against Lebanon and its people ceases.

The attack comes amid ongoing cross-border tensions and continued Israeli airstrikes across Lebanon, including recent attacks on the capital, raising concerns over a broader regional escalation.

A two-week ceasefire reached between Iran and the United States took effect on Wednesday, with peace talks scheduled to begin later this week in Islamabad, Pakistan. Yet Israel has said the ceasefire does not cover the conflict in Lebanon, a position disputed by Iran and mediator Pakistan, with Tehran calling Lebanon an "inseparable" part of the truce.

The death toll from Israel's Wednesday attacks across Lebanon has risen to 303, with 1,150 injured, according to a preliminary toll released Thursday by the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health.
