JERUSALEM, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Direct talks between Israel and Lebanon are set to begin next week, Israel's state-owned Kan TV reported Thursday.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier said he instructed his cabinet to open negotiations with Lebanon on disarming Hezbollah and establishing peaceful ties between the neighbors, responding to requests from Beirut.
Kan cited officials saying the talks will be held under U.S. sponsorship. Lebanon will be represented by Ambassador to the United States Nada Hamadeh Moawad, and Israel by Ambassador Yechiel Leiter. ■
