KUWAIT CITY, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait reported Thursday that its armed forces remain on the highest alert with no new developments in the past 24 hours.
The army said it is fully prepared to protect national security, while the Interior Ministry described the security situation as stable and under control. Explosive ordnance teams handled 17 reports of shrapnel from recent interceptions, bringing the total to 793 since the latest escalation.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation confirmed Kuwait International Airport remains closed, warning that social media reports of resumed flights are false. The airport and airspace have been suspended since Feb. 28 amid regional tensions.
On Wednesday, Kuwait's air defenses intercepted 28 drones, despite a U.S.-Iran two-week ceasefire announced hours earlier. The ceasefire follows joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran on Feb. 28 and subsequent attacks by Tehran and its regional allies on U.S. and Israeli interests. ■
