MOSCOW, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Russia welcomes the announcement of a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran and hopes for the success of the negotiating process, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi during a phone call on Thursday.
Russia appreciated Iran's accession to the arrangement and is ready to assist in finding solutions that would help overcome the consequences of the unprovoked U.S.-Israeli aggression against Iran and ensure long-term peace and sustainable security in the region, Lavrov said during the conversation initiated by the Iranian side, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Araghchi thanked Russia for its principled position in the UN Security Council when discussing the situation in the Persian Gulf. ■
