BAKU, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov praised Pakistan's mediation role in the recent U.S.-Iran ceasefire during a phone call with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, the Azeri foreign ministry said Thursday.
Bayramov described the ceasefire as an important step toward easing regional tensions, enhancing stability and improving the humanitarian situation, and commended Pakistan's instrumental role in facilitating the agreement.
He expressed hope that the upcoming talks in Islamabad would yield positive results, and wished Pakistan success in fostering dialogue between the parties and strengthening confidence in the region.
Bayramov also spoke highly of Pakistan's consistent and principled stance, as well as its constructive initiatives on regional security.
The two sides also exchanged views on other regional and international issues of mutual interest, and discussed prospects for further advancing the Azerbaijan-Pakistan strategic partnership. ■
