BAGHDAD, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Five people were killed Tuesday when an unknown rocket struck a residential house in Iraq's southern province of Basra, a security source said.
An officer from the Basra Operations Command, speaking anonymously, told Xinhua that the initial death toll from the rocket strike is five, after it struck a house on a farm in the Khor al-Zubair area south of the namesake provincial capital, Basra.
An investigation has been launched into the incident, the source said.
The attack came amid heightened regional tensions following joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran starting on Feb. 28, to which Iran and its regional allies responded with attacks on Israeli and U.S. interests across the Middle East. ■
