AMMAN, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Jordan, Syria and Türkiye on Tuesday signed a trilateral memorandum of understanding to enhance cooperation and integration in the transport sector, according to a statement by the Jordanian Ministry of Transport.
The agreement was signed in the Jordanian capital Amman by Jordan's Minister of Transport Nidal Qatamin, Syrian transport chief Yarob Badr, and Türkiye's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu, during a joint ministerial meeting attended by representatives from the public and private sectors, as well as transport and logistics experts.
The memorandum aims to develop an integrated regional transport system to facilitate passenger and goods movement, improve supply chain efficiency, and position the region as a key logistics hub linking regional and global markets.
Qatamin said the agreement marks a step toward building a more advanced, efficient and flexible transport system capable of adapting to geopolitical changes, noting that the transport and logistics sector is central to Jordan's economic modernization efforts, including advancing multimodal transport, establishing logistics hubs, upgrading border crossings and adopting digital solutions.
Badr highlighted the meeting as a strategic step toward establishing a practical roadmap for cooperation based on executable projects, with plans to boost rail connectivity, ease transit, and harmonize procedures that reinforce Syria's geographic role as a link between East and West.
Uraloglu stressed the importance of strengthening various modes of transport links between the region, Saudi Arabia and Gulf countries, as well as enhancing road, rail and maritime infrastructure, noting the strategic role of Jordan's Aqaba Port in regional trade.
The memorandum also provides for the establishment of joint committees and technical teams to implement unified plans, promote digitalization and investment, simplify procedures, monitor performance, and support sustainable transport development across the three countries. ■
