JAKARTA, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Five people were killed and one injured on Wednesday after a landslide struck a village in Indonesia's North Sumatra province, local search and rescue officials said.
The disaster occurred following heavy rainfall that began Tuesday night, burying a residential area.
"There were six victims in total. Five were found dead," an official said in a written report, adding that one survivor has been receiving treatment at a hospital.
Emergency teams have cleared fallen trees and debris that had paralyzed local transport. Road access to the affected village has been fully restored. ■
