HANOI, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam remains on course for its elevation from frontier to secondary emerging market status by FTSE Russell, a British stock index provider, with implementation set for Sept. 21, local media VnEconomy reported Wednesday, citing an announcement from the State Securities Commission of Vietnam.

This comes as the index provider released its March 2026 equity country classification interim review on Wednesday, pointing to the country's progress in implementing the global broker model, according to the report.

"Regulatory bodies, onshore and global brokers, custodians and buy-side firms have aligned on the key operational components needed for implementation, with the remaining work focused on finalizing bilateral agreements between global and local brokers," the London-based index provider said in its review announcement.

The upgrade, first announced in October last year, will be implemented in phases through September 2027 and is expected to help the country attract large-scale foreign capital, improve liquidity and strengthen its position in the global financial system, the report added.
