CAIRO, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and European Union Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process Christophe Bigot discussed on Tuesday the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and the path toward regional stability.
During a meeting in Cairo, Abdelatty stressed the importance of implementing the second phase of the ceasefire plan in the Gaza Strip, particularly ensuring the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid to enable early recovery and reconstruction, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said.
The meeting also focused on enabling the Palestinian technocratic committee to start governing Gaza from inside the enclave.
Both sides stressed international support for the committee, a swift deployment of an international stability force, and keeping the Rafah crossing open for aid.
Abdelatty also condemned the settlement activities in the West Bank, the closure of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, and the Knesset's approval of the law that permits the execution of Palestinian prisoners.
The two sides called for continuing Egyptian-European coordination, supporting the political path to achieve a just and comprehensive settlement and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967, lines with East Jerusalem as its capital. ■
