HANOI, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue topped 1.9 quadrillion Vietnamese dong (about 72.14 billion U.S. dollars) in the first quarter of 2026, up 10.9 percent year on year, the Vietnam News Agency reported Monday, citing the National Statistics Office (NSO).

According to the office, retail sales of goods accounted for the largest share at 1.45 quadrillion Vietnamese dong (about 57.8 billion dollars), up 10.9 percent, while accommodation and catering services generated 234.7 trillion Vietnamese dong (about 9.35 billion dollars), and other services 192.8 trillion Vietnamese dong (about 7.68 billion dollars), up 13.3 percent and 8 percent, respectively.

Nguyen Thu Oanh, director of the NSO's Service and Price Statistics Department, said that given the 10.9-percent growth in retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue, combined with spillover effects from public investment, tourism, rising incomes and controlled inflation, the domestic market will help drive economic expansion in the second quarter and the full year of 2026.
