RIO DE JANEIRO, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Former Brazil national team manager Dorival Junior was sacked as head coach of Corinthians on Sunday after a poor run of form.

The announcement followed a 1-0 home loss to Internacional, a result that left the Sao Paulo club 16th in the 20-team Brazilian Serie A standings with two wins from 10 games.

In a statement late on Sunday, Corinthians said under-20 coach William Batista would take over the role on an interim basis.

Dorival oversaw 26 wins, 19 draws and 18 losses following his appointment in April last year.

His 24-year coaching career has included spells in charge of Santos, Flamengo, Fluminense, Palmeiras, Sao Paulo and Brazil's national team.
