HANOI, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam attracted 15.2 billion U.S. dollars in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first quarter of this year, up 42.9 percent year on year, local media outlet VnEconomy reported Monday, citing the National Statistics Office.

During the three-month period, manufacturing and processing were the key drivers with 8.85 billion dollars, followed by the electricity, gas, water supply and air-conditioning sector with 2.28 billion dollars.

The Southeast Asian country licensed 904 new projects during the period, totaling 10.23 billion dollars, up 6.4 percent in number and 2.4 times in value compared with the same period last year, the report said.

Most of the capital came from Singapore with 5.32 billion dollars, accounting for 25 percent of the total, followed by South Korea with 3.68 billion dollars and China with 417.5 million dollars, the report added.
