BUENOS AIRES, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Midfielder Tomas Galvan scored twice as River Plate extended its impressive form with a 3-0 home win over Belgrano in Argentina's Apertura tournament on Sunday.

The hosts opened the scoring in the 36th minute when Belgrano goalkeeper Thiago Cardozo parried away Sebastian Driussi's effort on the counterattack only for Galvan to slot in the rebound.

Facundo Colidio doubled the lead with a glancing header after Juan Meza's cross from the right side of the penalty area.

Galvan made it 3-0 by running onto Anibal Moreno's through ball and lashing a first-time effort that rebounded in off the far post.

River is now second in Group B with 23 points, having won four consecutive league matches. Belgrano is fifth in the 15-team group, four points further back.

"I was really eager to score," Galvan said after the match. "I had plenty of chances in the last few matches but things didn't click for whatever reason. Thankfully things went my way tonight."

In other Argentine top-flight fixtures on Sunday, Newell's won 3-1 at Central Cordoba and Huracan prevailed 3-0 at Gimnasia La Plata.
