KUWAIT CITY, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait reported early Sunday that several critical infrastructure sites and a government building were struck by "hostile drone attacks," causing material damage but no casualties.
Two power generation and water desalination plants were targeted, resulting in significant damage and the shutdown of two generation units, the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy said in its press statement posted on social media platform X.
Moreover, the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation reported that a fire broke out at its headquarters building in the Shuwaikh area, following a drone strike earlier in the day.
Separately, the Ministry of Finance confirmed that the Ministries Complex in the capital was also hit by a "hostile drone attack," sustaining material damage.
The finance ministry said that government services at the complex were suspended for the day, with operations being shifted online and in-person visits temporarily halted.
The development came amid heightened regional tensions following joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran starting on Feb. 28, to which Iran and its regional allies responded with attacks on Israeli and U.S. interests across the Middle East and civilian and energy infrastructure in countries across the Gulf region. ■
