ABU DHABI, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Three fires at the Borouge petrochemicals plant in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), have been brought under control, with no injuries reported, authorities said on Sunday.
According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, debris from an intercepted aerial threat sparked fires at the petrochemicals facility. Emergency teams acted swiftly to contain the situation.
Operations at the facility have been suspended. Some damage occurred at the site and a full assessment is underway, it added.
The UAE Ministry of Defence said that its air defences intercepted nine ballistic missiles, one cruise missile, and 50 drones launched from Iran on Sunday, bringing the total number intercepted since Feb. 28 to 507 ballistic missiles, 24 cruise missiles, and 2,191 drones. ■
