AMMAN, April 3 (Xinhua) -- The flow of natural gas from Israel's Leviathan field in the eastern Mediterranean to Jordan resumed Friday, an energy sector official said.
Quoted by the Jordan News Agency Petra, the official said gas supplies are expected to gradually return to normal levels. Authorities are closely monitoring the flows to ensure steady delivery to power plants and maintain stable electricity operations.
The official added that efforts are underway to diversify energy sources and enhance the readiness of the national electricity system to ensure a secure and uninterrupted power supply.
Jordan relies heavily on imported natural gas for electricity, and the resumption comes amid heightened regional tensions that have driven up global oil prices and disrupted energy supply chains.
Gas flows from Leviathan, a key source for Jordan and Egypt, were halted after joint U.S.-Israel strikes on Iran on Feb. 28. ■
