KUWAIT CITY, April 3 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait said a power generation and water desalination plant was struck in what it described as an "Iranian attack," causing material damage to parts of the facility.
In a statement on social media platform X, Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy spokesperson Fatima Abbas said the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday. Technical and emergency teams were immediately deployed to contain the impact and maintain operational stability, she noted, adding that coordination is ongoing with relevant authorities to secure the affected site.
Earlier, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation reported that a drone attack targeted the Mina Al Ahmadi refinery on Friday morning, causing fires in several operational units.
The incidents came amid heightened regional tensions following joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran that began on Feb. 28. Iran has responded with missile and drone attacks on Israel and neighboring Gulf countries hosting U.S. military assets. ■
