BANGKOK, April 2 (Xinhua) -- A total of 162 foreign productions were filmed in Thailand during the first quarter of this year, generating an estimated 1.18 billion baht (about 36 million U.S. dollars) in revenue, official data showed on Thursday.
According to the Thailand Film Office, commercials remained the largest share of these productions, with 63 projects, followed by 25 promotional programs, 18 documentaries, 16 travel shows, 11 music videos, eight feature films, and six television series.
Despite a year-over-year increase in the number of productions, up from 153 during the same period in 2025, the overall investment value saw a decline from last year's 1.52 billion baht (46.38 million dollars), the office said in a statement.
The slight drop in financial investment was due partly to global economic pressures, said Department of Tourism Director-General Jaturon Phakdeewanit.
He cited rising energy and fuel prices, alongside higher international travel expenses, as key factors prompting production companies to manage their budgets more cautiously.
Looking ahead, the department forecasts continued growth in foreign film production, fueled by the Southeast Asian country's strengths, which include diverse filming locations, highly skilled personnel, cost-effective production expenses, and a highly competitive incentive program. ■
