ZAGREB, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Thirty migrants have been rescued after their boats capsized overnight on the Sava River in eastern Croatia, Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said on Wednesday.
According to the Croatian news agency Hina, there is currently no official confirmation of fatalities, and those rescued are in good condition, Plenkovic said. Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic confirmed the rescue operation.
Most of them are citizens of Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh. Eight migrants were taken to nearby hospitals, mainly suffering from hypothermia.
Police are working to determine how the migrants reached Croatia and whether they had assistance, Bozinovic added.
According to police information, the incident occurred at 1:42 a.m. (2342 GMT) on the Sava River in eastern Croatia, near the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. ■
