BEIRUT, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Israeli strikes on southern Beirut late Tuesday night killed seven people and wounded 21 others, according to Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA).

An Israeli strike on southern Beirut's Jnah area killed five people and wounded 21, according to the NNA. The attack targeted a vehicle convoy, igniting cars and causing loud explosions heard across the capital and suburbs, it said.

Another Israeli strike on a car on the Khaldeh highway killed two people inside, the NNA reported. The target was believed to be a senior figure, but their identity was not immediately known.

Hezbollah later announced that fighter Mohammed Baqer al-Nabulsi was killed in the Israeli strike on the Jnah area.

Cross-border fighting has continued along the Lebanon-Israel border since March 2, when Hezbollah launched rockets toward Israel for the first time since a ceasefire agreed on Nov. 27, 2024, triggering intensified Israeli airstrikes across southern and eastern Lebanon.
