CAIRO, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Tuesday discussed efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East during a series of phone calls with his counterparts from Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan.

The consultations focused on ongoing efforts to prevent a regional explosion, emphasizing the vital importance of intensifying joint coordination with friendly nations to contain the current crisis and prevent further deterioration, according to a statement issued by Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

The discussions also touched upon the outcomes of the recent quadrilateral ministerial meeting involving Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye, held in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad. The ministers exchanged views on building upon those results and continuing regional and international efforts to halt the war, reduce escalations, and advance the diplomatic path, the statement said.

The top diplomats underscored that prioritizing dialogue remains the sole means to spare the region from comprehensive chaos.

The war, triggered late last month by joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran, has escalated tensions across the Gulf and disrupted global energy markets.
