NEW DELHI, April 1 (Xinhua) -- The price of commercial cooking gas, or Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), was hiked by 195.50 Indian Rupees (around 2.09 U.S. dollars) per cylinder of 19 kg in India with effect from Wednesday, owing to rising global oil prices amid the Middle East conflicts.

The commercial LPG was used for cooking purposes in hotels and restaurants. The price of a domestic LPG cylinder of 14.2 kg, however, remained unchanged at 913 Indian Rupees (around 9.77 U.S. dollars).

After the increased price, a commercial LPG cylinder would be available at 2,078.50 Indian Rupees (around 22.25 U.S. dollars) in New Delhi and surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, the federal government said that it was taking a series of steps to ensure the uninterrupted availability of petroleum products and LPG in view of the ongoing situation in the Middle East.

"All refineries are operating at high capacity, with adequate crude inventories in place. The country is also maintaining sufficient stocks of petrol and diesel," said an official statement issued by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, adding that domestic LPG production from refineries has been increased to support domestic consumption.
