KABUL, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces have confiscated nine firearms and 15 kg of illicit drugs during separate intelligence-led operations in two provinces, the Ministry of Interior Affairs announced on Wednesday.
In eastern Panjshir province, police conducted a targeted raid in the Dasht-e-Riwat area and recovered nine weapons, including five bolt-action rifles and four semi-automatic rifles. The firearms were seized from a suspected theft ring, according to the ministry.
Separately, counter-narcotics units in western Nimroz province carried out a coordinated operation that resulted in the seizure of 15 kg of illegal drugs. Two individuals were arrested in connection with the haul, said the ministry.
The operations form part of a sustained nationwide campaign by Afghan authorities to combat illegal arms trafficking and narcotics smuggling. Officials have pledged to intensify such crackdowns in order to strengthen security and reduce criminal activity across the country. ■
