HANOI, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ordered a reduction of at least 10 percent in electricity consumption during the peak summer months from April to July, the Vietnam News Agency reported Tuesday.

The directive, issued on Monday, aims to strengthen electricity conservation and promote the development of rooftop solar power.

The government leader called on ministries, sectors, localities and the public to achieve nationwide electricity savings of at least 3 percent in 2026.

He also urged faster expansion of self-produced and self-consumed rooftop solar systems, with priority given to installations at government offices, production, business and service establishments, and households.
