KABUL, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Eight commuters were injured, some in critical condition, after a mini-bus plunged into a ravine in Ghor province, western Afghanistan, on Tuesday, according to a statement from the provincial police.

The incident occurred on a road connecting Ghor with neighboring Herat province due to the driver's carelessness on a congested road, the statement added. All injured commuters have been transferred to a nearby health center.

Earlier, a similar accident on Saturday in Laghman province, eastern Afghanistan, killed one person and injured 10 others when a mini-bus collided with two motorcyclists.

According to local media reports, at least 320 people have been killed and over 16,500 others injured in road accidents in Herat province and its adjoining areas in western Afghanistan over the past year.
