MOSCOW, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed in a fire that broke out in an apartment building in Nizhny Novgorod, the regional branch of Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations said Tuesday.
The fire occurred early Tuesday morning in an apartment on Taganskaya Street, burning household items over an area of about five square meters, the ministry said.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze and found the bodies of a man and a woman in one of the rooms. Their identities are being confirmed.
Preliminary reports indicate that the fire was caused by careless handling of fire by the deceased, the ministry's press service added. ■
