BEIJING, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Cai Qi, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), attended a meeting on the planning and construction of the Chinese capital in Beijing on Tuesday.
Cai, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made remarks at the seventh plenary meeting of the Capital Planning and Construction Committee, which he heads.
The strategic positioning of Beijing should be implemented, with a focus on the capital's functions and a firm orientation toward high-quality development, according to the meeting.
The meeting called for further advancing the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, relieving Beijing of functions non-essential to its role as the national capital in an orderly manner, and supporting the construction of the Xiong'an New Area in north China's Hebei Province.
The meeting emphasized the need to strengthen governance modernisation in megacities and to develop an integrated modern transport system.
It called for the development of a resilient city, effectively preventing and defusing various security risks, and safeguarding the security and stability of the capital. ■
