AMMAN, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Tuesday raised fuel prices for April, its first increase since the regional conflict began, while absorbing part of the global price hike to limit the impact on consumers, according to the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
Under the new scheme, Octane 90 gasoline will rise to about 1.28 U.S. dollars per liter from 1.16 dollars, and Octane 95 will increase to roughly 1.69 dollars from 1.48 dollars.
Diesel prices climbed to approximately 1.02 dollars per liter from 0.92 dollars.
The Fuel Pricing Committee said the government did not fully pass on global price increases and will continue absorbing part of the costs. Only 37 percent of the rise for Octane 90, 55 percent for Octane 95, and about 14 percent for diesel was passed to consumers.
Official figures show the actual April cost for Octane 90 is about 1.64 dollars per liter, with Octane 95 at roughly 1.87 dollars and diesel at about 1.58 dollars per liter. ■
