KABUL, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Police in a crackdown on illegal crops have smashed 120 acres of poppy farms in western Afghanistan's Nimroz province, provincial police spokesman Mawlawi Gul Mohammad Qudrat said Tuesday.

The anti-drug operations have covered several districts, including Dilaram, Khashrod and Chakhansor, during which more than 120 acres of poppy farms have been destroyed, the official emphasized without providing more details.

On Monday, police also reported the discovery of 18 kg of narcotics and the arrest of an individual in the northern Badakhshan province.

The Afghan government has vowed to fight against illegal crops, drug production and its trafficking until the once-poppy-growing nation becomes free of the drug hazards.
