BEIRUT/JERUSALEM, March 29 (Xinhua) -- At least 20 people were killed and many others wounded in a series of Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon overnight Saturday into Sunday, according to Lebanon's Health Ministry and local reports.
The Health Ministry's Emergency Operations Center said an Israeli airstrike on the Nabatieh district killed seven people and wounded eight others. Seven people were also killed in an airstrike on the village of Henniyeh, while two people were killed and three others wounded in a separate strike on the village of Jouaiya.
Earlier, two people were killed when an airstrike hit a house in the village of Ebba. Another strike targeting a center near Bint Jbeil Hospital in the city of Bint Jbeil killed two paramedics from the Islamic Health Authority.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah said it launched rockets and drones at several Israeli military bases and sites along the Israel-Lebanon border. It also fired an air defense missile at an Israeli helicopter over the village of Adaisseh, forcing it to withdraw.
Also on Sunday, Israel said one of its soldiers, a U.S.-Israeli national, was killed during combat in southern Lebanon.
The Israeli military said Sergeant Moshe Yitzchak Hacohen Katz, 22, from New Haven, Connecticut, served in the Paratroopers Brigade. No further details were provided.
Cross-border fighting has continued along the Lebanon-Israel border since March 2, when Hezbollah launched rockets toward Israel for the first time since a ceasefire agreed on Nov. 27, 2024, triggering intensified Israeli airstrikes across southern and eastern Lebanon, and on Beirut's southern suburbs. ■
