BEIRUT, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Israel has resumed airstrikes on Beirut's southern suburbs on Friday afternoon, starting with one on the Tahwitat al-Ghadir-Mreijeh area near the Lebanese Red Cross center, Lebanon's official National News Agency (NNA) reported.
Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee said in a statement that "the army has begun carrying out airstrikes on Hezbollah infrastructure in Beirut's southern suburbs," renewing his warning to local residents, especially in the neighborhoods of Haret Hreik, Ghobeiry, Laylaki, Hadath, Burj al-Barajneh, Tahwitat al-Ghadir, and Chiyah.
An NNA report earlier in the day said that Israeli airstrikes on southern and eastern Lebanon and Beirut's southern suburbs early Friday killed at least 11 people.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah said it carried out multiple attacks on Israeli military positions and settlements along the border and in the occupied Golan Heights.
Cross-border fighting has continued along the Lebanon-Israel border since March 2, when Hezbollah launched rockets toward Israel for the first time since a ceasefire agreed on Nov. 27, 2024, triggering intensified Israeli airstrikes across Lebanon.
Since March 2, Israeli attacks have killed 1,142 people and injured 3,315 others in Lebanon, the Lebanese Public Health Ministry said Friday. ■
