ISLAMABAD, March 28 (Xinhua) -- The counter-terrorism department (CTD) of police foiled major terror plots in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province and arrested 36 terrorists during multiple operations over the past month, the CTD said on Saturday.
The operations were carried out in multiple districts, including the provincial capital city of Lahore, said the CTD in a statement, adding that two most-wanted terrorists belonging to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan are among those arrested during the operations.
According to the CTD, the law enforcers conducted a total of 366 intelligence-based operations across the province and seized weapons, explosives and other prohibited materials.
The CTD said the terrorists were planning attacks on key buildings in multiple cities, adding that the first information reports have been registered against the arrested individuals, and further investigations are underway.
The operations are part of ongoing efforts to eliminate terrorism and ensure security across the province, said the CTD. ■
