SUVA, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Tongans are expected to face higher fuel costs and possible disruptions to daily life as the Middle East conflict continues to impact oil distribution globally, authorities said Friday.

Tongan government leaders provided an update on the challenges facing the country regarding fuel supply at a media briefing in the capital Nukualofa.

They acknowledged rising fuel prices and the risk of supply disruptions, while assuring the public that the situation remains stable for now, according to Matangi Tonga Online.

Prime Minister Lord Fakafanua said Tonga still has sufficient diesel reserves to maintain the electricity supply for approximately three months.

However, he said that prolonged global disruptions could create serious challenges by mid-year.

The leaders noted that disruptions could cause wider impacts on daily life, including remote work and restrictions on vehicle use.

They urged the public to conserve energy and avoid panic buying of fuel.
