KABUL, March 27 (Xinhua) -- The construction of 73 development and infrastructure projects valued at nearly 30 million U.S. dollars has been implemented in eastern Afghanistan's Paktia province over the past year, a provincial official announced Friday.

The initiatives, which cost a total of 29.855 million dollars within institutional frameworks, were implemented in key sectors including education, agriculture, healthcare, water supply and other priority areas in both the provincial capital and outlying districts, said Mohammad Rasool Ahmadi, spokesperson for the provincial government.

The official added that the completed projects have eased pressing environmental challenges for local communities and created employment opportunities for thousands of residents.

Ahmadi said work is currently underway on an additional 26 projects across various parts of the province.

The Afghan government has taken a series of measures to launch development and infrastructure projects throughout the impoverished-country, focusing on alleviating economic hardships and creating jobs for its citizens.
