KABUL, March 27 (Xinhua) -- At least four members of the same family have been hospitalized after a mud roof collapsed in eastern Afghanistan's Laghman province, a provincial official said Friday.
The incident occurred in the Gambi area of Alishing district following heavy rainfall on Thursday evening, critically injuring four individuals, including a woman and a child, said Qari Khair Mohammad Ghazi, director of the provincial disaster management authority.
All the injured have been shifted to a nearby health facility for treatment, according to the official.
In a similar tragedy a day earlier, three members of a family were killed and six others injured when the roof of their home collapsed in southern Helmand province on Wednesday.
Residential homes in Afghanistan's remote areas are predominantly constructed from mud, making them highly vulnerable to collapse during severe weather. Such structural failures frequently result in heavy casualties and significant property damage. ■
