KUWAIT CITY, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Kuwaiti authorities on Thursday intensified precautionary and emergency measures as unstable weather brought rains, strong winds and reduced visibility across the country.
The Ministry of Interior urged citizens and residents to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary movement during peak weather conditions. It said in a statement that unstable weather was expected to last from 10:00 a.m. (0700 GMT) to 8:00 p.m. (1700 GMT) on Thursday, with conditions gradually easing afterward.
According to the ministry, rainfall may be accompanied by thunderstorms and active southerly winds of 60 to 70 km per hour, reducing horizontal visibility and raising sea waves along coastal areas. Motorists were advised to drive carefully, reduce speed and avoid areas prone to water accumulation.
The Ministry of Public Works said emergency teams had been deployed nationwide to deal with water pooling and help maintain road safety, while meteorological authorities warned that scattered thunderstorms could become heavy in some areas, with a chance of hail.
Weather officials said conditions were expected to gradually improve from Friday morning, with decreasing cloud cover and lower chances of rain. Authorities called on the public to follow official updates and report emergencies through designated hotlines. ■
