BEIJING, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Liu Hui, who previously served as deputy head of the Committee on Education, Science, Health and Sports of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) for serious violations of Party discipline and laws, an official statement said on Thursday.
In a joint statement, the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision stated that the decision was made following an investigation into Liu's case, conducted with the approval of the CPC Central Committee.
Liu was found to have lost her ideals and convictions, and had failed to fully implement the major decisions and plans of the CPC Central Committee, while associating with political swindlers, making anonymous false accusations against others and engaging in superstitious activities.
Disregarding the Party Central Committee's code on improving conduct, Liu accepted banquets that may have affected the impartial performance of her duties, improperly accepted arrangements for tourism activities, and sought benefits for others in personnel selection and appointment, accepting money and valuables in return, according to the statement.
Liu was also found to have illegally meddled with disciplinary and law enforcement activities, and turned public power into a tool for personal gain, amassing illicit wealth, the statement read.
Her illicit gains will be confiscated and her case transferred to procuratorial authorities for examination and prosecution in accordance with the law, the statement added. ■
