BEIJING, March 26 (Xinhua) -- A total of 8,406 suggestions submitted by Chinese lawmakers to this year's annual session of the National People's Congress (NPC) have been assigned to 206 relevant institutions for study and handling, the NPC Standing Committee said on Thursday.
Over half of the suggestions focus on the goals and tasks of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), particularly on key areas for promoting high-quality development and the main issues concerning public well-being, the NPC Standing Committee said.
Such areas include science and technology, education, health, sports, development planning, the economy, and social and public affairs, it said.
High-frequency terms in the suggestions include empowering the development of the digital economy, establishing a high-quality education system, and promoting the green and low-carbon transformation of the industrial structure.
Over the past year, the 9,160 suggestions submitted by lawmakers to the previous NPC session in 2025 were all handled and responded to by 211 relevant institutions, the NPC Standing Committee said.
This resulted in the resolution of a number of pressing public difficulties and concerns and facilitated the improvement of a series of policy measures for development and public well-being, it added.
At a meeting held to assign the 2026 suggestions, an official with the deputy work commission of the NPC Standing Committee urged state organs to maintain communication with lawmakers, invite them to participate in research and discussions, listen to their opinions and suggestions, and enhance the relevance and effectiveness of the handling work. ■
