SEOUL, March 25 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's population mobility hit a 32-year low for the month of February amid the continued trend of low birth rate and aging population, statistical ministry data showed Wednesday.

The number of those who changed residence to a different province or town totaled 615,000 in February, down 11.5 percent compared to the same month of last year, according to the Ministry of Data and Statistics.

It marked the lowest since 1994 for any February, driven by long-term demographic shifts, such as low births and population aging, combined with short-term factors such as a decrease in housing completions and the Lunar New Year's holidays.

The population mobility rate, which gauges the number of people moving to a different region for every 100 people, declined 2.0 percentage points from a year earlier to 15.7 percent in February.

The capital Seoul and its surrounding Gyeonggi province posted a net inflow of 4,227 and 4,428 residents each, but the South Gyeongsang and the North Gyeongsang provinces recorded a net outflow of 3,454 and 2,011 residents, respectively.
